Viewpoint: Give input in this 'fight for our future'

As I travel around Minnesota’s 2nd District, I share the sentiments I hear from a lot our neighbors who, like me, are frustrated with what’s going on in Washington. From the failure of the Senate and president to consider our jobs legislation to broken promises like “if you like your plan, you can keep your plan,” it’s clear Washington is more disconnected than ever from the rest of the country.

I’m fighting every day to get Congress focused on what matters most and produce the results Minnesotans need, but I need to hear from you — those I represent — to guide me in this fight for our future.

As always, I want to hear your ideas on how to solve the problems our nation is facing. I value your opinions on legislation that comes before Congress, and more importantly, what you think Washington’s priorities should be. To facilitate a convenient way for you to share your thoughts with me, I have recently posted a survey on my website, Please visit my website, participate in your online survey, and tell me what you think.

Since our nation’s founding, “We the People” has served as the foundation for our representative government. Hearing your thoughts on the issues of the day is important to execute my responsibilities as the steward of the seat of Minnesota’s 2nd District in the House of Representatives.

Whether participating in public forums and constituent meetings, hosting telephone town halls, speaking with groups of Minnesotans like those who gathered with me recently at the Firehouse Grille in Elko New Market, or writing me a letter or sending me an email, input from the Minnesotans I represent is needed for me to best represent you in Congress. It also will help me convey to Congress what you expect from your representatives.

In his State of the Union address, the president called for a “year of action” and outlined the challenges before us as a nation. I appreciated hearing his views, but the opinions that truly matter to me are of those I represent. As my colleague, Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, said after the president’s recent address, “…the true state of the union lies in your heart and in your home.”

Please take a few minutes to visit my website,, and provide me your thoughts on the policies you would like to see Congress take action to address. Your feedback also allows me another way to keep the conversation going with you on these important topics.

While I remain focused on advancing policies that ultimately enable you to achieve your dreams, the feedback I get from you on legislation before Congress, and other issues, is invaluable to me and I look forward to reading the responses.
