Marvin F. Martin
Marvin Frederick Martin, born February 23, 1938, peacefully met the Lord Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 9:38 a.m.
He was baptized in Christ May 22, 1938 (decision of parents), and baptized in Christ July 31, 2005, at Crossroads Church (Marv's decision).
Marv graduated from South St. Paul High School June 8, 1956, and enrolled in the University of Minnesota in 1956, where he earned an Engineering Degree. He was employed by Minnesota Department of Transportation July 2, 1956, and then enlisted in the United States Army Reserve, August 21, 1956. He retired from Military Service as Command Sargent Major, November 5, 1991, and retired from MN DOT as Senior Engineering Specialist in Technical Support in Pre-letting, & Plan Review Department, March 1, 2000.
Marv was a resident of Cottage Grove for 40 years. He was a member of All Saints Church in Cottage Gove from 1977 to 1999. He began attending Crossroads Church, where he became a member in 2002. After attending the Alpha course offered at Crossroads, he volunteered to assist with the Alpha course by preparing and serving coffee, tea, and lemonade, and he went on to volunteer preparing and serving the beverages before the church services on Sundays. Marv enjoyed providing assistance for the Women's Christmas brunches by assisting women from and to their cars and with their coats. He went on to attend a Missions Trip to Reynosa, Mexico, at Pilar's Orphanage, where he mentored a few teenage boys and worked with them to repair broken chairs and doors. Marv had a blast playing games such as dodge ball with the kids and they all loved him; he became their abuelo (grandpa).
Marv was diagnosed with moderate Alzheimer's disease in 2010, then in 2013, Marv and Harriet sold their dream home and moved into Norris Square Presbyterian Homes where Marv peacefully passed away.
Marv was preceded in death by his father, Roland, and mother, Rose.
