Newport council fines Opinion Brewing for violation
Opinion Brewing Co. owes the city $1,000 after violating their temporary certificate of occupancy.
The city council last month required owners Derrick and Autumn Lehrke to resolve several fire and building code violations by June 30, or the council would not renew their liquor license.
The city issued a license to the Lehrkes after the fire inspector signed off and the building inspector issued a temporary certificate of occupancy dependent on the bowling area of the former Red Rock Saloon being blocked off. The city sent a message to the owners reminding them to keep the area off limits.
An officer from the Washington County Sheriff's Office visited Opinion Brewing June 30 and recorded patrons dancing and the band playing in the area that was required to be closed.
The city council voted to issue a $1,000 fine to Opinion Brewing for the violation. If the owners do not pay the fine to City Hall by Aug. 31, they will suspend their liquor license for the 24-hour period of Sept. 1.
