City to hire new engineer
The St. Paul Park City Council voted 5-0 on Jan. 19 to appoint WSB & Associates, Inc. the new city engineer pending contract approval.
WSB was selected from four finalists in a bid process that began late last year. The firm will take over from McCombs Frank Roos Associates, Inc., which has provided engineering services to the city since the 1980s.
"We just felt it was time for a change," said Mayor John Hunziker, "WSB is a young firm with young engineers, who may have some fresh ideas."
City administrator Kevin Walsh said there will be a cost savings with the new firm, although "it depends on the project.
"WSB had the best proposal and presentation and the council was comfortable with them," Walsh said. "Money was part of it but not the deciding factor."
WSB & Associates has offices in Minneapolis and St. Cloud and can provide expertise in transportation, traffic, water resources, structural, water and wastewater engineering and environmental planning and review. It also provides services in geographic information systems, right-of-way, surveying and construction administration, according to the firm's Web site.
