Red Rock draft plan open for comment

A draft version of a revised Red Rock Corridor transit plan is open for public comment until Feb. 14.

The Red Rock alternatives analysis identified bus rapid transit as the preferred mode to provide all-day transit to the corridor, which runs along Highway 61 through south Washington County. Four modes were considered based on cost, environmental impact and economic development.

In addition to pursuing bus rapid transit, the commission proposes to continue monitoring current commuter bus use in the corridor to determine when to add more transit services, and to seek more funding for Red Rock corridor improvements.

The report and a summary document can be found at the Red Rock website. This is the second alternatives analysis done on the corridor. The first was completed in 2007. The latest plan includes updated population and ridership information.

A public hearing will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, at the beginning of the Red Rock Corridor Commission meeting at Cottage Grove City Hall, 12800 Ravine Parkway S. The commission is expected to approve the alternatives analysis report at the meeting.
