Water main breaks in St. Paul Park; Oltman Middle School students released early

Oltman Middle School students were released early Thursday after a water main broke in St. Paul Park.

The city's new Public Works Supervisor Rob Weldon said crews were investigating why the main broke.

"We don't know the cause of this yet but it's most likely due to the cold weather and soil conditions," Weldon said.

Shortly before noon, Weldon said around 125,000 gallons of water was lost. The impaired water main, Weldon said, is located in front of a home located at 1130 Third St.

Students at nearby Oltman, 1020 Third St., boarded buses and were released to walk home at 12:30 p.m., the district said.

Water in the neighborhood was temporarily shut off while crews addressed the break.
