The city of St. Paul Park filled a vacant seat on its City Council Tuesday, appointing former Parks and Recreation Commission chair Jennifer Cheesman to the post.

Cheesman, sworn in by City Administrator Kevin Walsh at the council's meeting on Tuesday night, will serve the final six months of former City Council member Steve Hunstad's term that expires on Dec. 31. Hunstad resigned his seat in May to move to Hugo.

Council members selected Cheesman --a Target Corp. employee who was honored by the city last year for her volunteerism -- from a field of four candidates who applied for the vacant seat and were interviewed by the council at a meeting on June 20.

During her interview last month Cheesman expressed interest in running for re-election in November
