District 833 School Board briefs April 26
2019-20 calendar approved
South Washington County Board School unanimously approved the 2019-20 K-through-12 school calendar on April 26.
"We looked at some work time and incorporated in this calendar professional development time," Superintendent Keith Jacobus said. "And coupled with the assessment days, we put in last year, this calendar moves us forward in a number of ways."
The first day of school for grades 1-9 will be on Sept. 3, 2019, followed by the first day for grades 10-12 on Sept. 4. Kindergarten will start on Sept. 5, with pre-K starting on Sept. 9.
Trimester breaks will take place on Nov. 26 and March 5, with the end of the 2019-20 school year coming on June 3 (pre-K-5), June 4 (12), and June 5, 2020 (6-11).
Agreement with bus drivers
District 833 and the Association of Bus Drivers of ISD 833 came to a tentative two-year agreement effective July 1, 2017-June 30, 2019.
The tentative agreement includes a 25 cents hourly increase in year one and 35 cents in year two for bus drivers. There is also a 30-cent increase for year one and 25-cent increase in year two for bus assistants.
The motion passed unanimously.
In other news ...
• Another tentative agreement was made between District 833 and the Principals' Association effective July 1, 2017-June 30, 2019. Longevity pay was dropped from the contract and replaced with a seven-step salary schedule. The average salary increase will be 1.75 percent in year one and 2.49 percent in year two.
• The long-term facilities maintenance budget was approved at $15,405,500.
• Meeting watch: Thursday's meeting lasted two hours, five minutes. School Board Director Pat Driscoll was absent. The next meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at the District Service Center.
