District 833 School Board candidate: Duane Girard
Name: Duane Girard
Occupation: Software QA Engineer
Family: My wife and three children ages 6, 7 and 9
How do your skills or experience set you apart as a candidate?
I am a disabled veteran of multiple tours to Iraq, Germany, and Afghanistan. I learned my critical-thinking and decision-making skills in a strong team environment and am focused on learning and providing learning experiences to my children. I have a Bachelor of Science in International Business, an Associates of Applied Science in Intelligence Operations, and am working on my Masters of Business Administration. I have owned and managed two import companies and have a work ethic that can't be beat.
What do you believe the school board can do to narrow academic achievement gaps?
I believe that the district should continue to work on revising our current curriculum standards. Also, by prioritizing the availability of supplementary education and programs for students who need extra assistance, the district may realize near-term gains in student performance.
Is the budget and school funding the biggest challenge facing the district?
Budget and school funding is a big challenge for our district, but I believe that the major issue for District 833 is the lack of support for administration in our schools. A lot of people have lost faith in them because of mistakes that have happened this year and mismanagement by previous administration. Restoring that faith and support is going to take a lot of work.
