Dorschner hired as new School District 833 director of teaching and learning

South Washington County Schools has a new director of teaching and learning.

Matthew Dorschner, who for the past year has served as elementary specialist in the Teaching and Learning Department, was promoted to the director post.

The department oversees classroom curriculum and staff development for District 833 schools. The department has played an integral role in the rollout of digital course curriculum.

“Matt will bring continuity and consistency to the department,” Superintendent Keith Jacobus said. “His knowledge of the department’s curricular focus and the strong relationships he has developed with members of the department and principals will ensure we continue moving forward with our five-year curricular plan. The team has made progress in many ways to improve the alignment of our curriculum to the state standards and how we deliver instruction in a digital environment. I believe Matt is the best person to lead us forward during the leadership transition this spring and in the years to come.”

Dorschner is a former elementary school principal and has taught at the elementary and secondary levels. He is a doctoral student at the University of Minnesota and he served as chair of the Minnesota School of Excellence program, which awards schools based on six educational criteria. Dorschner also was elected as the Minnesota Elementary Principals Association President-elect in 2011.

“I am thrilled to continue the important work of teaching and learning for our district as the Director of Teaching and Learning," he said. "I am excited to work with a great team, to collaborate with staff, parents, and students and to create exceptional and comprehensive opportunities for all students which results in a culture of learning, curiosity, and reflection as an entire district community of learners.”

Dorschner replaces Randi Anderson, who is leaving for a job in the Eden Prairie School District.

The position was one of four open District 833 administrative posts following resignations this spring. Two new assistant superintendents -- Julie Nielsen and Michael Johnson -- have been named. The finance director position is still being filled.
