School District 833 and employee unions agree on new contracts

Local public school teachers will receive modest pay increases over the next two years under a new contract with South Washington County Schools.

The District 833 School Board on Nov. 21 approved the new agreement with the United Teachers of South Washington County. The union represents about 1,250 full-time equivalent teaching positions. The contract allows for a 0.3 percent pay increase in the first year and a 0.35 percent pay hike in the second year, in addition to step and lane increases in each year of the agreement.

The School Board approved the teachers’ contract 4-0. Board member Jim Gelbmann did not vote to avoid a conflict of interest; his wife is a District 833 teacher. Board members David Kemper and Laurie Johnson were absent. Teachers approved the agreement prior to the board vote.

The board also approved new two-year contracts with the union representing Kids Club supervisors and with the Professional Association of Confidential Employees.

All three contracts end June 30, 2015.

The board earlier this fall approved a new contract with the union representing District 833 bus drivers.
