Board to review budget reductions

The district's Budgeting for Excellence Budget Review Team's recommendations for reducing $2 million from next year's budget will be presented to the School Board at its March 8 workshop.

Bond refinancing will save taxpayers money

The district's plan to refinance one of its alternative facilities bond issues on March 22 is expected to result in a lower interest rate and cost savings.

Lowering the interest rate will result in a $116,000 savings that will be passed on to taxpayers in 2014-15, according to Aaron Bushberger, district finance director.

Health and safety budget gets nod

The $737,230 health and safety budget was approved last week by the District 833 School Board and has the approval of the Minnesota Department of Education, according to district finance director Aaron Bushberger.

Items in the budget include playground inspections and repair and fire alarm testing and repair.

Alternate facilities budget, bond sale, approved

Two district bond sale measures are being combined to save the costs of hiring bond consultants Ehlers & Associates twice, according to Aaron Bushberger, district finance director.

The refinancing and next year's alternate facilities budget for $8.3 million were approved by the School Board last week.

More than $5 million of the budget will go to install a new heating and cooling system at Armstrong Elementary School in Cottage Grove that also includes major repairs and new windows.

Path to high school created for immersion students

Two courses a year at Woodbury High School have been approved for the 2013-14 school year when the first Spanish Immersion students arrive from Cottage Grove Middle School.

Students in the language immersion program at Cottage Grove Middle School have two courses a year where social studies and language are taught in Spanish.
