Newport public safety reports: Theft; Suspicious activity
A 20-year-old Newport man reported fraudulent charges on his debit card after losing it Oct. 12. Police suspect a 42-year-old St. Paul woman is responsible for the several charges made before the card was cancelled.
A 35-year-old Mountain Lake, Minn., man is suspected in a gas drive-off at SuperAmerica, 1624 Hastings Ave., Oct. 16.
A 49-year-old St. Francis man reported his dock stolen Oct. 17. He told police the 16-by-16 dock was chained, but not to a tree. Loss: $3,800.
Devon Carl Boyles, 25, of Faribault, was arrested Oct. 18 following a traffic stop on suspicion of receiving of stolen property and drug paraphernalia. A sheriff's deputy stopped Boyle on Highway 61 confirming the status of the stolen vehicle, and called him out of the car at gunpoint. In a search of the car, police also found hypodermic needles, mail, checks, a wallet with ID and credit cards that did not belong to Boyles of the passenger.
A man in the 1500 block of Wild Ridge Court reported his "Slow, children" sign stolen Oct. 30.
Police on Oct. 13 responded to a home in the 1300 block of Glen Road after a woman reported she heard a cough and a door slam after getting out of the shower. There was no evidence anyone was in the residence.
A peeping tom was reported in the 1400 block of 10th Avenue Oct. 15. No suspects have been identified.
A homeowner in the 200 block of Fourth Street reported a white male in his 40s walking around on the property and looking into windows Oct. 20. The homeowner provided police with video of the trespasser.
Nathan Eli Johnson, 32, of St. Paul was arrested on a federal warrant at SuperAmerica, 1624 Hastings Ave., Oct. 13.
Tyler Locke, 20, of St. Paul Park was arrested for a fifth-degree drugs warrant at Loveland Park, 1600 Glen Road, Oct. 31. Locke was with two 17-year-olds, one 16-year-old and one 18-year-old smoking in the park around 7 p.m., according to the report.
Jamie Cumbe Pacheco, 26, of Minneapolis was cited for careless driving after rolling his vehicle near Military Road and Bailey Road around 4:35 a.m. Oct. 15, according to authorities. Pacheco reportedly fell asleep while driving eastbound on Bailey Road, hitting a tree and rolling the vehicle. He said he had two drinks before driving. A preliminary breathalyzer test was under the legal limit, at 0.075.
A 16-year-old female was flagged a runaway after taking her mother's car without permission or a driver's licence Oct. 15.
A 41-year-old Newport man is suspected of assaulting a 37-year-old Newport woman Oct. 15 on Fourth Street. The woman was transported to Woodwinds Health Campus after the man allegedly pushed her to the ground, leaving several bruises.
Newport Drug reported Oct. 16 that an unknown woman tried to fill a false oxycodone prescription during the weekend. The doctor on the prescription, from Taylor, Mich., told the pharmacist his book was stolen, according to the report. The prescription was not filled.
A 49-year-old Newport woman reported that someone attempted to use her name to get a prescription. Someone attempted to fill the prescription at a Walgreens in St. Paul.
Three women from Cottage Grove and Newport, one 15 years old and two 18 years old, reportedly tried to assault a SuperAmerica employee at 1624 Hastings Ave. Oct. 17. The three women were banned from the store.
Torreano Michael Estrada, 22, of Newport was transported to detox after the homeowner in the 800 block of High Street called police Oct. 20 to have him removed. Estrada also lives at the home, but does not pay rent. Estrada and juvenile friends were drinking and using marijuana in the garage when the homeowner asked them to leave, according to the report. Estrada tried to get into the home, then moved to the backyard and urinated on the shed. A preliminary breathalyzer test reported Estrada had a 0.21 blood-alcohol concentration.
A 39-year-old male tried to enter the home of his 43-year-old girlfriend in the 1500 block of 11th Avenue on Oct. 22, according to a report. He went to a friend's house for the night and was advised by sheriff's deputies not to return. A preliminary breathalyzer test showed the man was over twice the legal limit.
A 22-year-old White Bear Lake man followed a Newport man home Oct. 27 to threaten him because he believed he almost hit him. Sheriff's deputies issued comments to the White Bear Lake man, but made no citations.
A woman in the 1200 block of Fourth Avenue reported two 15-year-old girls throwing carrots at her house Oct. 28. Police found carrots and a cell phone belonging to one of the girls around the outside of the house. The girls were advised to return home.
A woman in the 80 block of 18th Street reported Oct. 20 that an unknown male was throwing rocks through the window and at a vehicle in front of the house. One of the rocks hit the woman, who was in the living room with her child. Police told a suspect to stay away from the home.
A 72-year-old Newport woman reported her home in the 900 block of Fourth Avenue was egged the night of Oct. 28. There are no suspects.
