Cottage Grove police reports for March 17: Suspicious activity, vehicle break-in

A Cottage Grove resident reported March 2 that a jacket, phone and headphones were stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 8500 block of Ivywood Avenue.

Suspicious activity

A Cottage Grove man called police Feb. 26 to report suspicious activity in the 8600 block of Inwood Avenue. A vehicle containing four male occupants pulled up to a home and one occupant got out and put a package outside the front door of a home. Then he got back in the car and the driver quickly drove in reverse down the road. When they saw the man watching, they went back to the home to get the package and then drove away. When police arrived, the suspicious vehicle was gone but the package was at the home.

A Cottage Grove woman reported about 8 p.m. March 2 that she saw an unknown man looking through a window of her home in the 9700 block of Hamlet Avenue. The woman said she screamed and the man ran away southbound on Hamlet Avenue. Police could not locate the suspect.

A Cottage Grove man called police about 11:50 p.m. March 2 to report seeing an individual look in vehicle windows with a flashlight. Police arrived and found a gym bag on the ground with contents strewn about the neighborhood. They returned the items to a resident in the 7700 block of 60th Street. That man was missing a set of earphones from his own vehicle.

A Cottage Grove woman called police just before 4 p.m. March 3 to report that a man was up in a tree in her yard. The woman said that when she went out of the house, the man jumped down from the tree, handed something to another man in a waiting vehicle and then they both left without talking to her. The woman said she had the tree trimmed recently.
