Cottage Grove police reports for May 7: Assault, theft, underage drinking, drugs

Recently reported criminal activity in Cottage Grove.


A 47-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of fifth-degree domestic assault following an April 11 incident at a home in the 9500 block of Indian Boulevard. The woman, who has no permanent address, allegedly struck her 36-year-old boyfriend several times. The man is from Milaca, Minn. The woman was booked into the Washington County jail.

Police were called to a domestic incident April 12 at a home in the 7500 block of Lamar Avenue. A 39-year-old woman who lives at the home was arrested on suspicion of fifth-degree domestic assault for allegedly punching her boyfriend in the side of the head.

Police arrested a man following an early morning domestic dispute. Officers were called to a home in the 7700 block of 110th Street about 1:20 a.m. April 14, where there was a fight between a boyfriend and girlfriend. A 19-year-old man who lived at the home was arrested on suspicion of domestic assault for allegedly trying to hold onto his 18-year-old girlfriend and refusing to allow her to leave, according to police. He also was arrested on suspicion of fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance after police allegedly found two pills in his pocket that did not belong to him. He was booked into the Washington County jail.


A Cottage Grove man told police April 11 that his cellphone was stolen from a Frisbee golf course in Cottage Grove. The phone had a tracking device police used to track down someone who knew the alleged suspect. Police subsequently arrested a 19-year-old man, who has no permanent address, on suspicion of gross misdemeanor theft.

A 19-year-old St. Paul Park man was cited for theft April 11 after he stole a 99-cent bottle of soda. He had paid for gasoline and drove away, but the gas station provided the vehicle license plate number to police, who tracked him down and ticketed him.

Holiday gas station, 8101 Hadley Ave., reported a gas drive-off on April 12. A 26-year-old Maplewood man was cited for theft.

A Cottage Grove man called police April 13 to report that a purse, identification card and a necklace were stolen from his home in the 9500 block of Indian Boulevard. He suspected his friend stole the items, the report said. The case was under investigation.

A man was arrested on a theft-related felony charge April 13 at Walmart. Police were called to the store at 9300 East Point Douglas Road after store personnel saw a suspect using a box cutter to remove DVDs from the packaging, according to police. A 32-year-old Cottage Grove man was arrested on suspicion of felony possession of burglary tools and misdemeanor shoplifting. A second person who was with the suspect was released without charges.

A Cottage Grove resident reported April 14 that a package containing a $200 baby monitor was stolen from a home in the 8200 block of Janero Avenue. The package supposedly was delivered to the home but the resident never received it.

A Cottage Grove woman in the 6700 block of Pine Arbor Boulevard reported April 15 that a check she mailed had been fraudulently used in Mankato.

A Cottage Grove woman reported April 15 that 80 to 90 prescription pills were stolen from a home in the 6400 block of 82nd Street. Loss: $1,275. Police had a possible suspect.

Walmart, 9300 East Point Douglas Road, reported a retail theft scheme April 15. A male suspect was captured on video using a self-checkout lane to purchase electronic toothbrushes ($200 total). He made individual transactions and used multiple coupons in the scheme, leaving only the lower-valued coupons. There was no arrest.

SuperAmerica, 7033 Jorgensen Lane, reported a $22 gas drive-off on April 16.

A Cottage Grove resident reported April 19 that a chair and a gas tank from a boat were stolen in the 8600 block of Ira Avenue. The chair was found. The stolen gas tank and gas were valued at $30.

Underage drinking

A 19-year-old Cottage Grove man was cited for underage consumption after he was found walking with a group of people after 1 a.m. in the 8000 block of Harkness Road. The man was intoxicated and unable to care for himself so police transported him to a detox facility.

Loud party

A 26-year-old Cottage Grove woman was ticketed for disturbing the peace after she hosted a loud outdoor party the night of April 11. Police received a complaint about loud noise from the home in the 9600 block of Hames Avenue and warned the woman. Police received a second complaint shortly before 2 a.m. April 12. That’s when she was cited.

Public urination

A 48-year-old St. Paul man was given a warning after he was caught urinating on the exterior of the vacant Home Depot building on East Point Douglas Road. The incident happened shortly after 2 p.m. April 12.

Trespassing, drugs

A 27-year-old man, who has no permanent address, was cited for trespassing April 12 at Menards, 9000 East Point Douglas Road, and was transported to the Washington County jail. A 39-year-old St. Paul Park man who was with the main suspect at Menards was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia. A 26-year-old Savage man who also was with them was arrested for three outstanding Dakota County warrants.
