An overnight manhunt for a St. Paul man wanted for multiple felony warrants ended shortly after 11 a.m. Monday at a Cottage Grove home.

Nicholaos Kremetis, 26, began his run from police Sunday night in St. Paul, Cottage Grove police Capt. Greg Rinzel said.

St. Paul officers dispatched its K-9 unit and the Minnesota State Patrol to search throughout the night but the pursuit was eventually terminated.

Rinzel said Kremetis, along with Katherine Swanson, 31, of St. Paul, then drove a vehicle to Cottage Grove where it ran out of gas near Hyde Avenue along East Point Douglas Road around 5 a.m. Monday.

Shortly after, an off-duty police officer recognized the vehicle and alerted law enforcement.

Officers were able to take Swanson into custody. However, Kremetis fled on foot. Swanson was arrested for an active warrant for driving after revocation.

Around 10:40 a.m., a resident in the 8600 block of Hilo Lane called police to report an unwanted male in a camper. The  description matched that of Kremetis.

Cottage Grove police, assisted by Newport officers, set up a perimeter spanning the neighborhood between Hyde Avenue and Hillside Trail.

The Cottage Grove Police Department also dispatched its K-9 unit.

Kremetis was later taken into custody in the garage of a home in the 7500 block East Point Douglas Road home, adjacent to the Sunbelt Auto Sales dealership.

Both nearby Hillside and Armstrong elementary schools were briefly placed on modified lockdown.

Police Capt. Pete Koerner said Kremetis had in his possession a backpack and an iPad, two items he said were most likely stolen.

The case remains active as Kremetis is also the suspect in a string of recent burglaries in various locations.
