Cottage Grove police brief: Suspicious incident leads to weapons citation

A man was arrested for a weapons violation following a suspicious incident at Target, 9300 East Point Douglas Road.

A police officer on patrol shortly before 9 p.m. March 9 saw a vehicle that had been involved in previous retail crime. The officer observed the vehicle as multiple passengers went into Target. Store security then called police out of concern that one of the suspects had concealed merchandise.

The suspects exited the store, got into vehicle and left. Police stopped the vehicle for a traffic violation.

One of the passengers, 28-year-old Michael T. Mathison, was arrested for four outstanding warrants. He also was cited for a weapons violation because police said he was carrying a folding knife with a 5-inch blade. Mathison was booked into the Washington County jail.
