Cottage Grove police reports for Nov. 26: Assault, property damage, theft

Recent criminal activity reported in Cottage Grove:


A Cottage Grove resident reported Nov. 14 that two plastic battery powered pumpkins were smashed at a home in the 7000 block of Irvin Avenue. Loss: $50.

Cub Foods, 8690 East Point Douglas Road, reported Nov. 15 that someone vandalized the restrooms, causing $300 damage.

Vandals caused $200 damage to the off-road bike track at West Draw Park on Meadow Grass Avenue. The Nov. 18 police report said someone took down snow fencing and damaged the track.


A 24-year-old St. Paul man was arrested Nov. 14 on suspicion of felony domestic assault after he allegedly slapped a 25-year-old woman at a home in the 8700 block of Ironwood Avenue.

A 24-year-old West St. Paul man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree burglary and domestic assault following a Nov. 16 incident at a home in the 7800 block of Hearthside Avenue. The man allegedly went to the home of an ex-girlfriend to retrieve property and then kicked in the door. The 25-year-old woman was extremely fearful for her safety, according to the report. The man was booked into the Washington County jail.

Police plan to ticket a 16-year-old Cottage Grove girl for fifth-degree assault following her fight with another female student at the South Washington Alternative High School, 8400 East Point Douglas Road.


A 14-year-old South St. Paul boy was issued a juvenile citation for tampering with a motor vehicle and fleeing police on foot following an attempted vehicle break-in on Nov. 15. Police were called to the 8100 block of Hemingway Avenue about 11 p.m. on a report of three juveniles trying to break into a vehicle. The other two juveniles ran away and were not located.

A Cottage Grove man told police Nov. 16 that someone removed items from his vehicle in the 7400 block of Hydram Avenue. The items were found in the man’s yard.

Property damage

A Newport woman reported Nov. 15 that a window was broken on a vehicle parked at Cottage Grove Middle School, 9775 Indian Blvd. Damage: $500.


A Cottage Grove man reported Nov. 16 that a bag was taken from a vehicle in the 7500 block of Immanuel Avenue. The bag was located later and returned.

A 51-year-old Cottage Grove man and a 45-year-old Cottage Grove woman were cited for theft Nov. 16 at Menards, 9000 East Point Douglas Road.

A Cottage Grove man reported Nov. 16 that his tool belt was stolen from a vehicle in the 8000 block of Hillside Trail. Loss: $1,500.

A Cottage Grove man reported Nov. 16 that his vehicle was stolen from a parking lot in the 7900 block of Hearthside Avenue. The vehicle had a tracking device installed and it was found in St. Paul. There are no suspects.

Sprint, 7145 East Point Douglas Road, reported on Nov. 16 that a cellphone valued at $700 was stolen. There were no suspects.

A 58-year-old St. Paul woman was cited for shoplifting Nov. 16 at Target, 8655 East Point Douglas Road.

Holiday gas station, 8101 Hadley Ave., reported a $37 gas drive-off on Nov. 17.

A Cottage Grove woman reported Nov. 18 that a cellphone was stolen from a home in the 9600 block of Heath Avenue.

A Cottage Grove man reported Nov. 20 that the battery was stolen from a vehicle parked in the 8400 block of Hilo Lane. The theft happened two weeks before it was reported.

Suspicious person

A 36-year-old Cottage Grove man was transported to an area hospital after he was apprehended by police following a suspicious person report Nov. 20. Police were called shortly before 8 p.m. to the 8100 block of Hearthside Road on a report of a man yelling and running around in the street. Police planned to charge the suspect for misdemeanor obstruction of the legal process and fleeing police on foot.
