Newport police reports for Sept. 26: Property damage, suspicious activity, theft

Recent criminal activity reported in Newport:

Property damage

A Newport woman reported Sept. 9 that someone broke into her vehicle and stole an empty safe valued at $50 while the vehicle was parked in the 1100 block of Ford Road. Damage was estimated at $100.

Suspicious activity

Police were called shortly after 3 a.m. Sept. 11 to a home in the 500 block of Fourth Avenue on a report of suspicious activity. The homeowner was working on the house because he said it gets hot during the day. He was told to wait until 6 a.m. to resume construction due to noise. Police were called back to the house about 9:30 that night for a similar complaint; the man was yelling outside and wearing a headlamp while working. He was told to stop working for the night.


Police were called Sept. 11 to North Pole Restaurant, 1644 Hastings Ave., on a theft report. An Eagan man said another man offered to fix his iPhone (valued at $500) and took it but never returned it.

A Cottage Grove man called police Sept. 11 to report that someone stole his tobacco pipe ($80) and some tobacco from Weighing Systems and Service, 885 12th St.
