Cottage Grove police reports for Sept. 20: Assault, burglary, vandalism

Recent criminal activity reported in Cottage Grove:


A 25-year-old Cottage Grove man was cited for fifth-degree domestic assault following an Aug. 30 incident at his home in the 7500 block of Inskip Trail. According to police, the man grabbed his 32-year-old wife, pushed her down on the couch and held her head forcibly against the couch cushions while swearing at her. He was transported to the Washington County jail.

A 24-year-old man, who has no permanent address, was arrested Sept. 3 on suspicion of fifth-degree assault for allegedly punching his 19-year-old girlfriend, who is from St. Paul, several times during a domestic incident at a home in the 9000 block of Islay Avenue. He was cited for fifth-degree domestic assault.


A Cottage Grove man reported a burglary Sept. 2 in the 8300 block of Harkness Road. A subwoofer box was stolen but later recovered in a neighbor’s yard. A chainsaw valued at $100 was also stolen but has not been recovered.


A Cottage Grove resident reported Sept. 1 that someone took pumpkins growing at a home in the 8300 block of Hyde Court and smashed them in the street nearby.

Disorderly conduct

A 34-year-old Wyoming, Minn., woman and a 30-year-old Cottage Grove woman were ticketed for disorderly conduct following an altercation Sept. 6 outside in the 9700 block of Hayward Avenue.

Menards, 9000 East Point Douglas Road, reported Sept. 7 that there was a problem with an upset customer. He did not want a guard at the gate to the store’s outdoor lot to look in his vehicle. The customer was verbally aggressive and was agitated. Police contacted the 54-year-old man and cited him for disorderly conduct.

Suspicious activity

Caribou Coffee, 7145 East Point Douglas Road, reported a suspicious incident Sept. 7. An adult male approached a juvenile female and asked her if she was looking for work. The girl’s mom became uncomfortable, and the man said it was a legitimate business and he was looking for a secretary. Police told him that wasn’t a good approach.

Suspicious vehicle

A 41-year-old Amery woman was cited Sept. 8 for driving after suspension after she and another woman were found climbing on construction dirt piles in the 9700 block of Military Road.


Police were called shortly before midnight Sept. 7 to a suspicious vehicle along Hinton Avenue. Two 17-year-old Cottage Grove males were issued Youth Service Bureau referrals for possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.


Police were called to the area near Belden Park around 8:30 p.m. Sept. 12 for a fire call. A group of juveniles had lit playground wood chips on fire. A 16-year-old Cottage Grove male was referred to the Youth Service Bureau’s fire awareness class. A 16-year-old St. Paul Park male was given a juvenile citation for possession of drug paraphernalia and a tobacco violation. A 14-year-old Cottage Grove female was issued a juvenile ticket for a tobacco violation.
