Cottage Grove police reports for Sept. 3: Fire, theft, property damage

Recent criminal activity reported in Cottage Grove:


Police and firefighters were called shortly before 1 p.m. Aug. 18 to Pine Tree Valley Park on Indian Boulevard for a reported fire. A portable toilet was on fire. There were no suspects.

A Cottage Grove woman reported Aug. 21 that she found a small hole burned in her deck in the 6800 block of Ideal Avenue. It’s believed someone at a party at the home put a cigarette in a flower pot, which started on fire and damaged the deck.

Police and firefighters were called at 5:40 p.m. Aug. 21 to a fire at a home in the 7400 block of Meadow Grass Lane. A fire in the garage was caused by a deep fat fryer.


Menards, 9000 East Point Douglas Road, reported a theft Aug. 14. A 30-year-old St. Paul Park woman was cited for shoplifting.

Holiday gas station, 6921 Pine Arbor Drive, reported a $78 gas drive-off on Aug. 15. There is no suspect.

Menards, 9000 East Point Douglas Road, reported a theft Aug. 15. Sarah A. Smith, 26, no permanent address, was arrested and is expected to be charged with possession of burglary tools and shoplifting.

Kohl’s, 7990 Hardwood Ave., reported a theft Aug. 17. Suspects took a coffeemaker, ran out of the building and left in a vehicle. They could not be located. Loss: $239.

A Cottage Grove resident reported Aug. 18 that a Chevy Corsica was stolen from a driveway in the 7300 block of Iverson Avenue. The vehicle was unlocked and a spare key was under the driver’s seat. The vehicle was found in the Rainbow Foods parking lot. Four males were observed exiting the vehicle, but police could not locate the suspects.

Holiday gas station, 8101 Hadley Ave., reported a gas drive-off Aug. 18. A police officer pursued the vehicle at a low speed, ending near McKnight Road and Lower Afton Road. Albert T. Bowman, 19, of St. Paul, was arrested on suspicion of fleeing police in a motor vehicle and driving after suspension. He also had two outstanding warrants. He was booked into the Washington County jail.


Two teens were caught trying to run from police following a reported fight. Police were called at 1:45 a.m. Aug. 16 to a verbal fight in the 8200 block of Foothill Road. Two males ran from the scene but both were found. Both were 16-year-old Cottage Grove males. One was referred to the Youth Service Bureau for fleeing and the other was given a juvenile citation for fleeing an officer on foot.

Suspicious activity

A Cottage Grove woman reported Aug. 16 that she discovered two suspicious males in her driveway in the 8200 block of Kimbro Avenue. She asked them to leave and they did.

Property damage

A Cottage Grove resident reported Aug. 18 that a mailbox was damaged in the 8500 block of 85th Street.

A Cottage Grove man reported Aug. 21 that someone struck his mailbox in the 7700 block of Inskip Trail. Damage: $30.
