A woman who had been drinking admitted to police she crashed her car in a Cottage Grove ditch while texting on her cellphone.

A police officer on patrol shortly before 1 a.m. Aug. 25 found a vehicle in a ditch on Innovation Road at 100th Street, near the 3M-Cottage Grove entrance. As the officer arrived on scene, 3M security was calling 911 to report the crash and that the driver was trying to drive out of the ditch.

The driver, a 24-year-old from Woodbury, was in the car when police arrived. She said she was on her way home after having left the nearby Metro Transit park-and-ride lot. She admitted to texting while driving. She also showed signs of alcohol impairment.

The woman was cited for fourth-degree drunken driving and texting while driving.
