Newport police reports for June 27: Domestic, property damage

Recent criminal activity reported in Newport:

Property damage

A police officer on patrol June 3 found an open door on the vacant Knox building at 2222 Maxwell Ave. Nobody was found in the building. A metal cage blocking windows on the building also had been knocked over.

A Cottage Grove man reported June 13 that his truck was damaged while it was parked in the 800 block of 12th Street.

Police were called to a vacant home in the 400 block of 12th Street after a juvenile male threw a rock at a door, breaking some glass, in an attempt to get into the home to retrieve a ball that had been kicked through an open window.


A 22-year-old Newport woman was cited for disorderly conduct and obstructing the legal process following a traffic stop June 14 in the 1800 block of 10th Avenue. The woman swore at a police officer as he told her to exit the vehicle, and then she swore at her parents, who were in the vehicle. She abruptly opened the car door, nearly hitting the officer and was combative while being apprehended, according to a police summary.

A 51-year-old Cottage Grove woman was cited June 16 for fifth-degree domestic assault for allegedly attacking her boyfriend as he tried to prevent her from taking items that did not belong to her from a Ford Road residence.
