Newport police reports for May 28


A Newport woman reported May 8 that someone stole cash from an apartment in the 1400 block of 10th Avenue. The amount of money stolen was not released.

Highland Sanitation and Recycling, 1811 Century Ave., reported on May 9 the theft of 36 gallons of gas valued at $144. The gas was stolen from a vehicle parked in the lot.

A Newport woman reported May 10 that someone siphoned roughly $20 worth of gasoline from her vehicle's gas tank while the car was parked in the 400 block of Sixth Street.

Park after hours

A police officer patrolling Bailey Park around 11:30 p.m. May 11, after the park had closed, encountered a vehicle with two people inside engaged in sexual activity. The juvenile male and female said they did not know the park was closed. They were cited for being in the park after hours. "I told both to find a better place to meet," the officer wrote in the report.
