Cottage Grove police reports for May 9: Indecent exposure, fight, burglary, theft

Indecent exposure

Cottage Grove police cited a man after finding him having sex with a girl in a car parked in the vacant Home Depot parking lot. An officer on routine patrol about 10:30 p.m. Friday, April 26, found a vehicle in the parking lot in the 7100 block of East Point Douglas Road. Two people were in the backseat having sex, according to the report. An 18-year-old man was cited for indecent exposure. The 16-year-old girl was referred to the Youth Service Bureau. Police said there was no sexual violation because their age difference was less than three years.


Two 14-year-old Cottage Grove males were referred to the Youth Service Bureau after they were fighting April 12 at Cottage Grove Middle School.

Identity theft

A Cottage Grove man reported March 30 that someone tried to use his identity to get a $11,000 loan or advance on his credit card. It did not go through.

Suspicious sign

Police are investigating after a handmade sign calling someone a "psycho whore" was placed outside and visible to passing traffic in the 8900 block of 82nd Street Court. The sign was reported to police April 9. Previously, police were called after signs calling someone a drug dealer and drug user or addict were left at visible intersections in Cottage Grove.


A Cottage Grove woman reported April 9 that someone had burglarized her home in the 9100 block of Jarvis Avenue. Numerous items were reported stolen, including a computer, video game equipment and jewelry totaling more than $6,000. It was not clear if forced entry was made into the home during the burglary, according to the report.

A Cottage Grove man reported April 22 that his home was burglarized in the 8200 block of Grenadier Avenue. Entry was gained by breaking a side door to the residence. The man reported that cash, a computer, a safe, jewelry and paperwork were stolen. The total value of the loss was $4,000.


A 15-year-old Cottage Grove male was given a juvenile citation for disorderly conduct April 17 after he became loud, disorderly and was yelling obscenities at Park High School, 8040 80th St.


A juvenile male reported April 12 that his headphones were stolen from an unlocked gym locker at Park High School. Loss: $200.

A Cottage Grove man reported April 12 that a bottle of medication valued at $20 was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 6800 block of 74th Street.

Holiday gas station, 8101 Hadley Ave., reported a $5 gas drive-off April 18.

Ruby Tuesdays, 7350 Hardwood Ave., reported April 19 that two men and a woman left the restaurant without paying a bill of $38.

A 58-year-old Maplewood woman was cited April 19 for misdemeanor theft after she stole merchandise from Rainbow Foods, 7282 East Point Douglas Road.

A 14-year-old Cottage Grove male was referred to the Youth Service Bureau for theft on April 19 after he stole merchandise from Kohls, 7990 Hardwood Ave.

A Cottage Grove woman reported April 20 that her purse was stolen while she was in St. Paul Park and someone used her financial card at a Cottage Grove business.

Menards, 9000 East Point Douglas Road, reported a shoplifting incident April 20. A 55-year-old Hastings man was cited for stealing $390 worth of merchandise.

A 14-year-old Cottage Grove male was referred to the Youth Service Bureau for theft of another student's phone on April 22 at Cottage Grove Middle School, 9775 Indian Blvd.
