Police said a driver was transported to an area hospital Monday after she failed to yield and caused an accident at a busy Cottage Grove intersection.

According to police, Rachel Skaggs, 45, was westbound in her Chevrolet Cavalier on 80th Street shortly after noon preparing to turn south on East Point Douglas Road.

Cottage Grove police officer Mike McCormick, who was in the area at the time of the crash, said Skaggs had a green light but not a green arrow. Skaggs failed to yield to an oncoming Chrysler Town and Country, driven by a 35-year-old female, who was not injured in the head-on crash.

Skaggs was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was cited for failure to yield. The scene was cleared within minutes, but briefly backed up traffic on 80th Street.

"We actually had two investigators going on a call when the accident happened," McCormick said. "They were right there and actually called it in. I was only two blocks away when it happened so we were relatively close when everything happened."
