Police identify woman found dead in home

Cottage Grove police have identified a woman found dead at a local residence Wednesday.

Police said they found the body of 52-year-old Wendy LaFrance of Cottage Grove in a home after they were twice dispatched to the residence. A 52-year-old man who was at the home was transported by ambulance to an area hospital.

Police declined to provide details of LaFrance's death, citing ongoing work by a medical examiner. They opened a death investigation Wednesday afternoon.

"Nothing appears suspicious at this time," Cottage Grove police Capt. Greg Rinzel said.

The woman was found dead inside the home after two emergency calls to the address in the 7600 block of Hinton Avenue. The home is in the Hinton Heights development.

Police first were sent there at 12:26 p.m. to check the welfare of the man. His employer had called police after he did not show up for work, Rinzel said. The man, who authorities have not named, refused any assistance when officers arrived.

Authorities were dispatched again to the home at 1:18 p.m. The man who earlier had declined assistance made the second 911 call, Rinzel said.

"An adult female was found deceased," he said, and the man was transported by ambulance to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

"He was still conscious," Rinzel said.

The Ramsey County medical examiner's office was called to the scene Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities said Thursday there was no history of domestic violence calls at the residence.

Cottage Grove police executed a search warrant of the home Thursday evening to ensure "a thorough investigation," deputy public safety director Pete Koerner said. Details of what was found at the residence were unavailable Thursday.
