Mississippi Dunes eyed as alternative site for relocated Taste of Minnesota
Mississippi Dunes Golf Links in Cottage Grove was one of several alternative sites considered for the Taste of Minnesota after flooding forced organizers to move the food and music festival from Harriet Island in St. Paul.
On Wednesday, however, Taste of Minnesota issued a statement announcing that the food and music festival would take place July 3-6 at Carver County Fairgrounds in Waconia.
Cottage Grove City Administrator Ryan Schroeder said they met Wednesday morning with a representative from Mississippi Dunes, who told him they were in discussions with Taste of Minnesota about staging the event there.
That would have required a special event permit, which has to be approved by the City Council.
“We were prepared to have a special meeting to grant that approval,” Schroeder said. “The issues are the same as for any event. It would be traffic, public safety, noise and neighborhood impact, the same as any other event.”
Schroeder said the city was contacted later that day by Mississippi Dunes and told the deal was off.
“We received the update from the Dunes that it wasn’t going to be held at the Dunes,” Schroeder said.
Representatives at Mississippi Dunes could not be reached for comment.
Mississippi Dunes is planning to host a barbecue festival in August.
