After sitting vacant in the Gateway North district for several years, the Hollywood Video site in Cottage Grove is being demolished.

Crews were on site early Tuesday tearing down the 6,650-square-foot building after renovations were halted in April following the discovery of exterior mold.

A crew member said demolition began shortly after 7 a.m. and should take approximately three days to fully tear down the building.

The construction firm Fendler Patterson is expected to begin construction of a three-tenant building using the same footprint immediately following demolition. The new building is the future site of Chipotle and Noodles & Company. A third tenant has yet to be secured.

Noodles is expected to occupy 2,697 square feet on the north end of the building, with a 493-square-foot patio. Chipotle is planned to occupy 2,366 square feet on the south end of the building, with a 600-square-foot patio.

Last month, Cottage Grove Mayor Myron Bailey said both restaurants plan to open later this year.
