Cottage Grove police reports for Sept. 5: Vandalism, theft, burglary, property damage


A Cottage Grove resident reported Aug. 28 that a Trek bike valued at $2,000 was stolen from a garage in the 8300 block of Greenway Avenue. There was no sign of forced entry but the garage was closed when the homeowner left for work that day, according to the report.

Property damage

A Tennis Sanitation truck window was damaged with what appeared to be a BB while the driver was leaving the parking lot of St. Rita’s Catholic Church, 8694 80th St., at about 9:30 a.m. Aug. 23.


Police and firefighters were called to a reported fire around 5:15 p.m. Aug. 23 at a home in the 7800 block of Gresham Lane. A pool heater had overheated and was shooting flames, according to the report. It was extinguished. There were no injuries.

Police and firefighters were called about 4:30 a.m. Aug. 27 to a home in the 8500 block of Jorgensen Avenue for a reported fire. There was a small fire in the dryer. It was extinguished.

Underage drinking

Reserve officers on routine patrol about 12:15 a.m. Aug. 24 saw an occupied vehicle in the Metro Transit park-and-ride lot at 7500 West Point Douglas Road. A 20-year-old Cottage Grove man in the vehicle was charged with underage consumption and open bottle.


A Cottage Grove resident reported Aug. 24 that someone loosened all of the lugnuts on a vehicle parked in the 9000 block of Janero Avenue.

A 21-year-old Cottage Grove woman was cited for tampering with a motor vehicle and a 13-year-old Cottage Grove male was referred to the Youth Service Bureau for tampering after police received a report Aug. 26 that two people were seen walking among cars parked at or near Renewal by Andersen at 100th Street and Jamaica Avenue. The female suspect was seen releasing air from a vehicle tire. The vehicle’s owner identified the suspect. Police found both the male and female at a Cottage Grove home.


Country Inn and Suites, 8350 East Point Douglas Road, reported Aug. 24 that three or four juveniles were throwing oatmeal from a storage room, towels and chairs into the hotel pool. The juveniles, who were not staying at the hotel, returned a day later. Hotel staff recognized them and called police. Two 13-year-old males — one from Cottage Grove, the other from Fridley — were issued juvenile tickets for disorderly conduct. The two of them and another juvenile male all were ordered not to return to the hotel.


A Cottage Grove man reported Aug. 25 that a Kindle, phone charger and other items were stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 9800 block of Hamlet Lane. Loss: $333.

G-Will Liquors, 6990 80th St., reported Aug. 28 that a man stole a $17 bottle of vodka from the store. Police reviewed video but could not substantiate that the suspect stole the bottle.

Noise complaint

Police were called to the new Walmart construction site on East Point Douglas Road on a noise complaint at 4:40 a.m. Aug. 28. A crew had started doing cement work and was told to stop because it was too early.
