Cottage Grove seeks volunteer park rangers

The city of Cottage Grove is looking for some green-thumbed help to mark Arbor Day.

The city is asking volunteers to join city employees in working at Pine Tree Valley Park, 8431 Indian Blvd., from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, April 27. Volunteers are asked to bring shovels and gardening gloves to plant trees, clear brush, remove invasive buckthorn plants and water or mulch new trees. Tools will be provided.

There will be a coloring contest, bird houses to build, and a free pine seedling for kids (one per child). No registration is required.

If work is completed at Pine Tree Valley Park before 11 a.m., people may be asked to volunteer at North Ideal or Nina's Park.

New to this year's Arbor Day celebration, Cottage Grove residents can remove buckthorn from their own property, place it at the end of their driveway and have it picked up at no charge on Monday, April 29. Call 651-458-2808 by April 26 to schedule a buckthorn pickup.
