Amid complaints, District 833 sticks with winter parking policy at Park High School

School District 833 officials heard recently from residents frustrated by a parking ban in the new portion of the public parking lot at Cottage Grove Ice Arena.

Complaints came after those attending a youth hockey tournament were not allowed to use all of the new parking lot between 80th Street and the arena.

Most of the parking lot is a collection site for snow plowed off the Park High School parking lots, said Superintendent Mark Porter at the Dec. 1 School Board meeting. The parking lot was expanded for that purpose last summer. Residents were upset because some of the spaces were blocked on a recent weekend despite there being no snow.

Even if there is no snow, the area will remain off limits to parking in the winter just as the city bans on-street parking during winter months, Porter said.

Some parking spaces along the south side of the arena are open.
