A winter storm warning is in effect until 6 a.m. Saturday for the Twin Cities metropolitan area, including south Washington County, with up to seven inches of snow possible by Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Roads were slick by late afternoon as plow crews prepared to clear streets after snow began flying in south Washington County shortly before 2 p.m. Snowfall is predicted to pick up through the evening and is expected to be heavy during the evening rush hour, slowing commute times.

Winter parking bans in effect

Winter parking rules are in effect in Cottage Grove, Newport and St. Paul Park; no overnight on-street parking is allowed between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. Violators in each city can be ticketed or towed.
