Cable commission considering move

The local cable commission is considering moving its office, now located across the street from Cottage Grove City Hall, to space formerly occupied by Summerhill Liquors at 70th Street and Hinton Avenue.

The South Washington County Telecommunications Commission voted to let its executive committee decide whether to relocate, and then make other authorizations related to the potential move at its meeting Thursday night.

Commission administrator Fran Hemmesch asked that the committee make a decision on whether to move by June 16 so they could be settled in before the commission starts election coverage in September. She said the new location would be more centrally located, allow the commission to better utilize its space and would not be in disrepair like its present space at 7584 80th St.

"The roof is leaking, the walls are leaking, the floors are leaking and the landlord is unresponsive," Hemmesch said. "I'm worried about the equipment."

Hemmesch said the rent at the prospective location is comparable to its current rate, and they're being offered six months free rent.

One-time moving costs are still being determined, Hemmesch said.
