Father's Day full of Christian music, messages

Cottage Grove pastors Lonnie and Susie Rogowski wanted to create a fun family event and a showcase for local churches and ministries.

After months of work, their idea will come to fruition on the Strawberry Fest grounds on Sunday, June 15, in the form of a daylong festival of Christian music and speakers.

"We just thought it would be a great thing for families to come out on Fathers' Day and be together," Susie Rogowski said.

The event is not an official part of Strawberry Fest, said festival president Myron Bailey, but its organizers will be able to use the tents and stages used for the festival the previous day.

The biggest-name speaker will be former Minnesota governor Al Quie, whom the Rogowskis met through their work in prison ministry.

The Rogowskis run Whirlwind Ministries, through which they go into jails and treatment centers and conduct Bible studies and Christian services and give courses on anger management and living balanced lives.

The Harbor Church will start the day at 9 a.m. with an outdoor church service, but other than that most of the day's entertainment will be music.

"We have country, contemporary; we have southern gospel; we have Christian rock," Rogowski said. "There's something for all ages and styles."

Rogowski did offer a tip for those who think they might want to enjoy the music during the day: bring a lawn chair, and maybe an umbrella.

The stages are on the pavement, not the grass, so it might get hot sitting down there.

Following are the events scheduled for Sunday, June 15 at Kingston Park:
