Park softball team upset in sections

When four of the top-10 ranked teams in the state are in one section nothing is a given.

Park found that out on Friday.

The No. 2 ranked Wolfpack's season came to an end in the Section 3AAA tournament with a 9-6 loss to Rosemount at Eagan's Lexington-Diffley Field.

In the double elimination tournament, Park, the No. 2 seed, opened play with a 7-1 win over No. 10 seed Lakeville South on Wednesday after earning a first round bye, but fell in consecutive games on Friday--first 3-0 to third seed and No. 3 ranked Bloomington Jefferson, then to sixth seeded Rosemount.

Heading into the playoffs Park, who owns 13 section titles with its last coming in 2004 when it finished third in the state, was considered a favorite to win the Section 3AAA title along with No. 1 seed Eagan (14-1), who was ranked No. 1 in the state, Jefferson (15-2) and No. 4 Burnsville (12-3), who was ranked ninth in the state.
