Raptors will be red, not blue

When the Park and Woodbury high school football teams meet East Ridge High School's team during the football season in the fall of 2009, they will be seeing red.

The Wolfpack and Royals will meet the East Ridge Raptors (birds of prey) in future athletic events. The mascot was approved for East Ridge by the District 833 School Board at its regular meeting, March 20.

But the board did not like the proposed predominant school color of navy blue with red and white accents.

Navy blue is too close to the Woodbury Royal's predominant color of royal blue, board members said.

There is already resentment in Cottage Grove and the south half of the district that the new high school is located in Woodbury, said Board Member Jim Gelbmann.

"Blue is blue," he said, adding he would have the same hesitation if the choice was lime green because green is Park High School's predominant color.

As a compromise, Board Member Tracy Brunnette suggested the predominant color be red and the rest of the board agreed.
