Carrie Olson, 833 board member, resigns

School District 833 School Board Member Carrie Olson resigned at the Oct. 17 meeting, effective Nov. 17.

"We've made great strides in the district," she said. "I have enjoyed serving the students and the community."

Olson resigned because she took a job in the district's transportation department.

Olson, formerly employed as purchasing agent for a Stillwater manufacturing firm, will be regular routes office manager.

As part of a department reorganization, among her duties will be supervising approximately 55 bus drivers, a payroll administrator, dispatcher and regular router positions, according to Keith Paulson, transportation director.

Elected last fall, Olson has three years left in her term.

Superintendent Tom Nelson said, according to board policy, a replacement will be selected after applicants are interviewed to serve until the general election a year from now when someone can be elected to serve the remaining two years of her term.

He said the board will conduct interviews on Saturday, Nov. 11 and make an appointment at the Nov. 16 meeting when it is expected to make a final decision on a site for a third high school.

Applicants should send an application letter and a resume to the District Service Center in Cottage Grove. The letter should include reason for applying, strengths the applicant would bring to the board, the applicant's view on the three top issues the district faces and a description of professional and volunteer activities within the district and community.
