Discovery Community Church

Church to reach out on Great Day of Service, May 16

Members of Discovery Community Church, 828 Portland Avenue, in St. Paul Park, will celebrate five years of ministry by giving back to the community on Saturday, May 16.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., parishioners will change the oil in your car, clean your yard, give away free clothes, and offer advice on resumes and job applications.

"This is a great way for us to share what God has been doing for us," Brock said.

Senior pastor Wayne Allen said, "Throughout the day we will reflect on h how God brought two churches together to serve this community. The Great Day of Service is the perfect way to celebrate -- by simple giving back."

Classes on 'Rebuilding

Your Body'

Dr. Eric Hahn, of Oasis Chiropractic, will lead the final class, "Your Body is a Temple," at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, at Light the Way Church, corner of Jamaica Avenue and 70th Street, in Cottage Grove.

The faith-based program explains new ways to build health by life-style modification, including nutrition, exercise and peace and time management, according to a press release

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans

Multi-generational event

At LeDuc Estate

The Dakota-Washington County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is hosting a multi-generational event for Thrivent members only from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, at the LeDuc Historic Estate, 1629 Vermillion Street, in Hastings.

According to a press release, there will be indoor and outdoor activities focusing on the Civil War time period including games, root beer floats and other refreshments.

Flower sale

The spring bedding plant sale at the Cottage Grove campus of the Woodbury/Peaceful Grove United Methodist Church, will take place from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, May 14 and 15, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 16.

A wide variety of annuals, hanging baskets, villa pots, perennials and a few vegetables will be offered for sale. Flowers are from Gertens.

The church is located at 8600 90th St., in Cottage Grove.

Benedictine Center

Men's spirituality group

A men's group of newcomers and return guests interested in integrating contemplative prayer into busy lives will meet Monday, May 25, at the Benedictine Center in Maplewood, according to a press release.

The evening includes scripture, prayer and discussion. No experience with contemplative prayer is necessary. The group meets the fourth Monday of every month with Dr. David Sagula, a psychologist and popular retreat leader, leading discussion.
