Lenten services

Lenten services at Zion Lutheran Church, Cottage Grove, will begin at 7 p.m. Ash Wednesday, Feb. 6 and run through Wednesday, March 12. The Holden Evening Prayer Service will be used.

Prior to Lenten services, soup suppers will be served from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Suggested donations are $4 for adults and $2 for children, 11 and younger. All proceeds will be used to support seminary students from the congregation.

Lenten series, supper

Community United Church of Christ, 1145 Summit Avenue, St. Paul Park will hold an Ash Wednesday service at 7 p.m. Feb. 6.

On Wednesdays, Feb. 13, 20, 27 and March 5 and 12 there will be a soup supper at 6 p.m. followed by a video series featuring Dr. Roberta Bondi from Candler School of Theology as she takes a fresh look at the Lord's Prayer. Everyone is welcome to attend.

St. Luke Lutheran

Mid-day worship added

to Lenten schedule

St. Luke Lutheran Church, located at the corner of Hinton Avenue and 70th Street, Cottage Grove, will begin its annual mid-week Lenten worship services at 12:15 and 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13 and continue through March 12.

The mid-week worship gatherings will complement the sermon series, "The River of Life," and worshippers can attend mid-day or in the evening each Wednesday, said senior pastor Tim Housholder.

"The mid-day worship will last 30 minutes. Worshippers can expect a small, intimate gathering with a message from myself or pastor Nathan Anenson," Housholder said.

The evening worship will have weekly dramas, a variety of bands and choral groups, as well as a message. Soup suppers will begin each Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Donations and offerings during Lenten mid-week gatherings will go directly to Friends in Need Food Shelf and the World Hunger Appeal.

St. John Lutheran

Lenten theme is 'Hidden Glory'

Wednesday evening Lenten services at St. John Lutheran Church, Woodbury, will begin on Feb. 6 and run through March 12. The theme is "The Hidden Glory of the Cross" with the message being presented by Pastor Neldo Schmidt.

The evenings begin with a dinner served at 5:30 p.m. followed by the 7 p.m. worship service. The public is invited. The church is located at the corner of Valley Creek Road and St. Johns Drive.

Rose of Sharon Lutheran Church

Lent begins Feb. 6

The congregation at Rose of Sharon Lutheran Church, Cottage Grove, will begin the Lenten season at 7 p.m. Ash Wednesday, Feb. 6. Remaining midweek Lenten services will be held Thursdays through Maundy Thursday, March 20. Prior to worship, a light supper will be served at 5:30 p.m. All are invited to participate.

For Lent, Pastor Richard Miller will offer a sermon series entitled "Were You There." The series will run through Good Friday March 21 and conclude on Easter Sunday, March 23, with "The First Word of the Risen Lord."

The church holds a traditional worship service at 8 a.m. on Sundays, and a praise service at 10:30 a.m. Rose of Sharon is located at the intersection of 70th Street and Jamaica Avenue.

All Saints Lutheran Ash Wednesday worship

Each Wednesday in Lent, beginning on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 6, All Saints Lutheran Church, Cottage Grove, will host a light supper at 5:45 p.m., followed by Lenten worship at 6:46 p.m.

"On Ash Wednesday, you may have your forehead marked with ashes, and we invite you to participate in Holy Communion," said lead pastor Jules Erickson.

"Every Wednesday evening service in Lent, we will be singing the Holden Evening Prayer, with music and a brief homily that focuses on Sabbath life: rest, rhythm, wisdom and consecration," Erickson said.
