Weekend planner: Shriner car at VFW this weekend


JUGGLER AT NEWPORT LIBRARY -- Bill the Juggler will entertain kids with comedy and juggling and lots of audience participation, beginning at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 17, at the Newport Branch Library, 405 Seventh Ave., in Newport. BUSINESSWOMEN NETWORK -- Mary Marso, of Jeane Thorne, Inc., will speak to area businesswomen on Friday, July 17, at Norris Square, Presbyterian Homes, 8200 Hadley Ave., in Cottage Grove. RIVERTOWN DAYS -- The '09 Rivertown Days in Hastings will take place Friday through Sunday, July 17 to 19. Events include music at Jaycee Park, west of the bridge, a medallion hunt, photo contest, teen night, dock dogs competition, voyageur canoe tours, a tennis tournament, an 8K run and 2K walk/run and a tent dance. CAMPFIRE PROGRAMS -- Como Zoo naturalists will talk about "Bumps in the Night," at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, at St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park, in Denmark Township. The program is all about the lives of nocturnal creatures.

St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park is on the St. Croix River on County Road 21, between County Road 76 and County Road 78, in Denmark Township. The program will be held in the campground amphitheater. The program is free; parking is $5 per vehicle.

A program on Snakes will be presented at the same time and day at Lake Elmo Park Reserve, at the intersection of County Roads 19 and 10.

MUSIC, POTLUCK -- "Crossfire," a contemporary Christian musical group that has just returned from Africa will lead the congregation at Zion Lutheran Church in worship at 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 19. Members of the community are invited to attend worship and stay for a potluck lunch after the service to visit with the group. Zion is located at 8500 Hillside Trail, in Cottage Grove.

SHRINER CAR SHOW AT VFW -- Cottage Grove VFW Post 8752 will host the fifth annual Shriner's Car Show on Sunday, July 19, at the Red Barn, 9260 East Point Douglas Road, in Cottage Grove. Admission is free and there will be activities for kids and plenty of food.


COMMUNITY BAND CONCERT -- The South Washington County Community Band will play in concert at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, at Como Park. Admission is free.
