More than 200 people showed up for Cottage Grove’s first Movie in the Park event -- even after it was moved from the park.

The city’s Parks and Recreation Department relocated the Friday, June 21, event from Highlands Park to the Cottage Grove Ice Arena following a storm. Good thing, too, because a severe thunderstorm hit the area just as the movie got under way -- forcing staff to temporarily move the audience to arena locker rooms for safety.

Then children and their parents resumed the evening’s showing of “Despicable Me.”

A second Movie in the Park is planned for Aug. 2, when “Madagascar 3” will be shown.
