Weekend planner: Fall begins

This weekend marks the official beginning of fall in south Washington County with the opening of the corn maze at Zywiec's Landscape and Garden Center, just south of Cottage Grove on Highway 61.

The maze is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. beginning Saturday, Sept. 18. Tickets are $7 for adults, 12 and older, and $5 for youth, younger than 12. Children, younger than 2, are free.

Other events include the two-day fall fest at St. Rita's Catholic Church, 8694 80th St. in Cottage Grove.

Students and families at St. Andrew's Lutheran School, 1001 Holley Ave. in St. Paul Park invite the community to their fall festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18.

At American Legion Post 98 in St. Paul Park, the Legion Riders will host their first benefit breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18.

Newport firefighters are hosting a meat raffle from 4 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 17, at the Clover Leaf Bar and Grill, 2146 Hastings Ave., in Newport.

A benefit for Doug Palm will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18, at Park Place, 200 Broadway Ave., in St. Paul Park.

Newport United Methodist Church invites everyone to a steak and chicken fry beginning from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18.

The congregation at Cottage Grove United Church of Christ is hosting its annual turkey dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 19.
