Weekend planner: Nature programs, 'Taste of St. Luke' this weekend

The weekend will begin on Thursday with an ice cream social and move on to campfire programs, bird banding and a benefit motorcycle run. St. Luke Lutheran Church is holding a family picnic and the Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce welcomes business people to free coffee on Tuesday morning.

The congregation at Community United Church of Christ in St. Paul Park is planning an evening full of activities for its 25th annual ice cream social, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 22.

Join Bob, Mary, Jay and the crew of experts at Carpenter Nature Center in Denmark Township as they band and release a variety of wild birds from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Friday, July 23.

Warner Science Center will present a campfire program on "Wolves" at the Lake Elmo Park Reserve, while Underwater Adventures will present, "Make a Slash," at the St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park, in Denmark Township. Both programs are free and begin at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, July 24.

The Have a Heart organization, which provides respite care and other support services to children and young adults in northwestern Wisconsin, is hosting a motorcycle run on Saturday, July 24.

Join Carpenter Nature Center's executive director, Jim Fitzpatrick, for a morning bird hike from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 24.

St. Luke Lutheran Church in Cottage Grove invites the community to a "Taste of St. Luke," from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 25.

District 833 is offering Safety Town Camp for children entering kindergarten in the fall of 2010. The program is scheduled from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, July 26 to 30 at the District Program Center in Cottage Grove.

"Coffee's On!" a networking event for area business owners and employees and members of the Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce is scheduled from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on Tuesday, July 27, at Cottage Grove Auto & Collision, 7515 95th St. Free coffee and rolls will be served.
