Weekend planner: Free movie, benefits, parks programs this weekend

The St. Paul Park Park and Recreation Commission invites families to a free movie beginning at dusk on Friday, July 16, at Dingle Park, at the corner of Pullman and Portland avenues, in St. Paul Park. A benefit beer bust for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day breast cancer walk will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 17, at Park Place Sports Bar, 200 Broadway Ave., in St. Paul Park. Tickets are $15 if purchased in advance and $20 at the door. Activities include pig roast, beef and two bands, Blind River at 3 p.m. and Tim Sigler at 9 p.m. All proceeds will go to the 3-Day team of Monica Schafer Brooks and Jody Jannetto Ries. The John Glenn Cadet Archery Club is offering an introductory archer class from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 17, at Lake Elmo Park Reserve. All equipment is provided. The cost is $10. To register, call (651) 430-8370.

Washington County Parks will feature Warner Nature Center and Como Zoo in two separate campfire programs, both set for 7:15 p.m. Saturday, July 17, in Washington County Parks. Both programs are free; parking is $5 per vehicle.

Warner Nature Center will present a campfire program on "Barred Owls" at the Lake Elmo Park Reserve.

Rob and Jill Olson of Lake Elmo, who have two young sons with cystic fibrosis, are hosting the Breathe Easy Music Fest, for the second time.

The event, to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, is scheduled from 3 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, July 17, at 881 Jasmine Avenue Place North in Lake Elmo.

A $30 pre person donation is suggested which covers food and beverages. Other activities will include live bands, a craft bazaar, kids games and silent and live auctions.

A Civil War encampment will take place from 2 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 18, on the lawn of the Octagon House, at 1004 Third St., in Hudson, Wis. Local Civil War re-enactors will stage an encampment where guests can learn about the everyday life of a soldier, what they ate and what they did for entertainment.
