South Washington County Schools Superintendent Keith Jacobus will hold conversations with the community in October to share recent district successes and student achievement results and hear comments from the public.
If he were picked as superintendent, Keith Jacobus said he has a 100-day plan during which residents, district leadership and staff members would get to know him “with as many personal interactions as possible."
The candidates come from as close as Inver Grove Heights and as far as Washington state, suburban Texas and Washington, D.C. None of the semifinalists are from the South Washington County School District, but one is a former Oltman Middle School assistant principal.
Parents packed the District 833 School Board room Thursday to complain about the district’s proposed class day changes and fee-based busing for some school programs, urging the board to consider other ways to balance its transportation budget.
School Board member Jim Gelbmann said the district shouldn’t require criminal background checks for “occasional” volunteer situations where parents come into schools to help with craft projects, for example.
If the plan to approve new school start and end times is approved by the District 833 School Board Thursday night, some parents are not going to be happy. Board members say they understand, but must cut district costs.
