Voltage takes Early Bird, earns trip to national tourney The Minnesota Voltage, a 16-and-under softball team comprised of players from Cottage Grove and Woodbury, won the New Richmond, Wis. Early Bird Tournament held June 12 to 14 and earned a trip to a national tournament in Indiana.

When four of the top-10 ranked teams in the state are in one section nothing is a given. Park found that out on Friday. The No. 2 ranked Wolfpack’s season came to an end in the Section 3AAA tournament with a 9-6 loss to Rosemount at Eagan’s Lexington-Diffley Field.

Park head softball coach Charlie Whitbred said his team always has Woodbury circled on the schedule. But, this one was circled a few extra times. On Monday, Whitbred went for career win No. 500 and the Wolfpack tried to make it 10 wins in a row as No. 2 ranked Park took on Suburban East Conference rival Woodbury, the only team to defeat them this season.
