Maurine Ellen Sarah Bexell, 93

Maurine Ellen Sarah Bexell, age 93, of Hastings, died Dec. 15 at Regina Assisted Living.

Maurine was born March 16, 1919, in Nicollet County, Minn., to Herman Emanuel and Emma Sarah Catherine (Eckberg) Nelson. She married Rev. Everett L. Bexell on June 24, 1942, in St. Peter, Minn. Rev. Bexell died in 1983. She was a former secretary at Tilden Elementary School in Hastings for 20 years. Maurine was a member of the Regina Auxiliary, Our Saviour's Ev. Lutheran Church, and the Hastings Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers Sheldon and Arden Nelson; sister Doris Eilertson; and sister-in-law Marvel Nelson.

Maurine is survived by two sons, Rev. Luther (Mary) Bexell of St. Paul and Rev. Dr. Joel (Donna) Bexell of Cottage Grove; grandchildren, Dr. Sarah Bexell of Colorado, Wendy (Shannon) Sweeney of Waconia, Aaron Bexell of Rockford, Ill., Julie (Todd) Sieben of Denmark Twp., Minn., Laura (Josh) Oien of Woodbury, Barbie (Paul) Erickson of Burnsville; great-grandchildren, Adam Orde, Madison, Daniel and Reese Sweeney, Megan Sieben and twins Violet and Greta Sieben, Lena Oien, and Lyla Erickson; also brother-in-law Rev. Marvin Palmquist and "adopted daughter" Sharon Nandzik.

The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Lloyd Menke, will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at Our Saviour's Ev. Lutheran Church, 400 W. Ninth St., Hastings, with visitation 1 hour prior at the church. Interment will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, Hastings. Pallbearers are Sarah Bexell, Shannon Sweeney, Aaron Bexell, Todd Sieben, Josh Oien, and Paul Erickson. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
