Merna Lynn Mellum, age 71, of Cottage Grove, died Sunday evening, Nov. 11, at St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Paul.
Merna Lynn Mellum, age 71, of Cottage Grove, died Sunday evening, Nov. 11, at St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Paul.
Merna was born Sept. 9, 1941, in Kenton, Ohio, the daughter of Delbert and Naomi Molk. She graduated from Kenton High School before studying nursing at Lima Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Ohio Northern University, and National Louis University. She was an RN for 43 years, 35 of those years at Lutheran General in nursing management. She was employee of the year at Advocate Hospitals in Park Ridge, Ill., three times.
Merna was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church. She served Mission Midway and volunteered at Woodwinds Hospital and with children's ministries at St. Luke.
She is the beloved mother of Laura Ann (Mellum) (Todd) Schultze and Eric E. (Amy) Mellum; grandmother of Amber Ann, Valerye, and Reid; sister of Nita (Bob) Parmley, Linda (Gary) Hockett; aunt of Megan (Rich) Kanis, Courtney (Danny) Smith, Rob, Matt, and Jared Parmley; great-aunt of Sarah, Samantha, Anna, and Matthew Parmley, Trey, Reid, and Paul Kanis.
Visitation 5-9 p.m. Friday at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 80th St. S., Cottage Grove. Funeral service 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Hinton & 70th St., Cottage Grove. Memorials to Mission Midway - St. Luke Lutheran Church.
