Alfred "Al" Sobaski, age 89, of Cottage Grove, WWII Army veteran, died Saturday evening, Aug. 11, at United Hospital In St. Paul.
Alfred "Al" Sobaski, age 89, of Cottage Grove, WWII Army veteran, died Saturday evening, Aug. 11, at United Hospital in St. Paul.
Alfred Joseph Sobaski was born April 4, 1923, in South St. Paul, Minn., the son of Joseph and Marie (Hallenmak) Sobaski. He was raised in South St. Paul and graduated from South St. Paul High School in 1941. In 1941, he married Jeanne, who died in 1990. In 1992, he married Doris. Al served in the United States Army during WWII, and served in the Bougainville Campaign.
He enjoyed sports, especially hockey and the Minnesota Twins.
He is the beloved husband of Doris; loving father of Jim (Marlys), John, Linda Bickerstaff; stepfather of Dwane "Butch" (Darlene) Berens, Kathryn (Dale) Malm, Carolyn (Greg) Spencer; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren.
Al was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanne; parents, Bill and Marie Waldhauser; grandson Anthony; brother, Bill; sisters, Alice and Audrey.
Visitation 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Kok Funeral Home, 1201 Portland Ave., St. Paul Park, and 10-11 a.m. Friday at church. Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at St. Rita's Catholic Church, 8694 80th St. S., Cottage Grove. Burial St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery.
